Professional Development

Online Professional Development

Earn professional development credit on your own schedule! Because many districts have difficulty obtaining substitutes and providing for released time, but still need to provide high-quality professional development, LLTeach offers two on-line professional development courses that can be completed at a customized, personal pace. Both workshops also offer the same hands-on, highly interactive content that teachers who attend Paul Lawrence in-person presentations rave about, while presenting an excellent opportunity to earn the professional development credit that educators are required to fulfill.

For more information on how to register for these courses, please contact Morgan Chen at (800)575-8830 x209 or chenm@llteach.com

Hands-on, Discovery-Based Mathematics

Hands-on, Discovery-Based Mathematics includes, through video-clips, thirty hours of alternate activities focused on all arithmetic operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. After registering for the course, teachers receive a manipulative kit and study guide with discovery templates to use as they complete each of the sessions. When Paul shows an activity with base ten blocks, a geoboard, connecting cubes or a Communicator® clearboard on the video, time is built-in to allow the participant to complete the activity for themselves. At the end of each session, participants answer questions that reflect the content of the session, providing for effective lesion closure. There is a study guide that includes open-ended questions with sample responses so participants can assess their own mastery of the topics studied.

Hands-on, Discovery-Based Mathematics is offered by Knowledge Delivery Systems. To purchase this on-line course, please call 1-800-728-0032 or visit their website at www.kdsi.org.

Teaching Middle School Mathematics

Teaching Middle School Mathematics is centered around issues commonly encountered in middle school mathematics. Organized around Lesson Quest, there are four major segments to the course. Each of the first four parts focuses on one of the four content strands. Teachers may enroll in any of the four major segments or may choose to complete all four strands. At the end of each session, multiple choice questions about content and pedagogy are presented and then followed by open-ended questions accompanied by suggested responses. The materials for this course includes a math manipulatives kit for interactive use as well as a complete set of the Lesson Quest teacher materials that correspond to the course work.
